Burrito Deluxe



		Falu Kuriren CD Review (Swedish Newspaper) 11/17/2006 (Swedish and English versions) by Kenneth Lundstrom Burrito Deluxe är ett tips för den som tycker att det inte gjorts några bra skivor sedan Flying Burrito Bros och Eagles storhetstid för hundra år sedan. Gruppen har tagit namnet från just Flying Burritos andra och sista album med den legendariske Gram Parsons. Med då var även Sneaky Pete Kleinow som för några år sedan var med och bildade Burrito Deluxe. Sneaky Pete är med på tre låtar på skivan, men är svårt drabbad av Alzheimers sjukdom och vårdas dygnet runt. Ändå finns banden till Parsons kvar, inte bara musikaliskt. Walter Egan är ny i gruppen och skrev en gång klassikern Hearts on fire med Parsons. Disciples of truth är Deluxe tredje, countryrock med sting och inslag av alla typer amerikansk rotmusik. Inte oväntat av en supergrupp där huvudrollerna spelas av sångaren, låtskrivaren, multiinstrumentalisten Carlton Moody (Moody Brothers), Jeff Stick Davis från fantastiska Amazing Rhythm Aces och nämnde Egan. Listan över gästande musiker är lång och prominent. Trots att de flesta är ärrade rutinerade musiker spåras ingen trötthet. Tvärtom, de musikaliska infallen är många, stämsången ljuvlig. Den som ger sig tid att sätta sig in i texterna upptäcker tolv små lysande berättelser. Mina favoriter är Encino och On a roll. Skivan släpps i Europa i helgen, men svensk distributör är inte klar ännu. Burrito Deluxe is a great tip for those of you who think that no good records have been made since The Flying Burrito Bros´ and The Eagles´ greatest times, a hundred years ago. The group has taken the name from The Flying Burritos´ last album with the legendary Gram Parsons. With him, at that time, was Sneaky Pete Kleinow who, for a few years ago, was one of the musicians who started Burrito Deluxe. Sneaky Pete plays on three of the songs on the record but, stricken with Alzheimer's disease, he is now being tended to round the clock. The bonds to Parsons are still to be found on the tracks, not only the musical ones. Walter Egan is a new member of the group. He once wrote the classic song Hearts on Fire with Parsons. Disciples of Truth is Deluxe´s third, country rock with passion and contributions of all kinds of American "rootmusic". Not that unexpected from a superband, like the Burritos, where the leading parts are played by the singer, the writer of the lyrics, the multi-instrumentalist Carlton Moody from the Moody Brothers, Jeff Stick Davis from the fantastic Amazing Rhythm Aces and Egan, mentioned earlier above. The list of guest artists is long as well as prominent. Although most of the members of the band are scarred, experienced musicians, no trace of tiredness can be heard. On the contrary, there are many musical inventions together with delightful voices. The one who takes some time to study the lyrics a bit closer, will notice the twelve brilliant stories. My favourites are "Encino" and "On a Roll". In Europe the album was released last weekend but a Swedish distributor is not yet arranged.
