Country-rock supergroup lost its primary connection to its namesake when steel guitarist, “Sneaky” Pete Kleinow, a former member of Gram Parson’s legendary Flying Burrito Brothers passed away in January. Burrito Deluxe began in 2000 by deliberately evoking Gram’s sound and style, but as Disciples of the Truth demonstrates, it has become much more than a tribute act. As the confident voices and solid songs of veteran front-men Carlton Moody and Walter Egan ride atop the Deluxe’s propulsive rhythms, this is the sound of a band both keeping its history alive and moving that legacy surefootedly forward. |
