Burrito Deluxe ‘Disciples Of The Truth’ CD in Stores Feb. 27
(NASHVILLE, TN) – Country/Americana band BURRITO DELUXE will release
their latest CD, DISCIPLES OF THE TRUTH, on Luna Chica Records, on Feb. 27, with
national distribution through an exclusive agreement with CBuJ.
Rockin’, twangy, rootsy, swampy and organic are just a few of the words
that
describe DISCIPLES OF THE TRUTH. With plentiful mandolin, Dobro and
accordion
alongside keyboards and electric guitars - the latest offering from
BURRITO
DELUXE is comprised of great songs played and sung with soul and
conviction by
an incredible band with eyebrow-raising pedigrees. DISCIPLES OF THE TRUTH
features top-notch performances, without undue concerns about
demographics- genders
or generations, and restores the faith that real music is still being made
by
real musicians.
DISCIPLES OF THE TRUTH, produced by Greg Archilla (Matchbox 20, Neil
Young,
Santana, Edwin McCain), is the third and strongest album to date from
BURRITO
DELUXE. Not flashy, trendy or gimmicky or catering shamelessly to purists,
the
project is a diverse and lively gumbo of classic Country, juke joint, and
good
American roots music from a stellar group of acclaimed musicians who’ve
been
making great music for years in various bands. The CD built tremendous
momentum after being released late last year in Europe to strong reviews
and critical
acclaim. It’s a confident and energetic step forward for BURRITO DELUXE.
BURRITO DELUXE is an all-star cast of musicians and singers that features
Carlton Moody on lead vocals, acoustic guitar, banjo and mandolin, Walter
Egan on
electric guitar and vocals, Jeff “Stick” Davis on bass and vocals,
Richard
Bell on piano, organ, clavinet and accordion, and Bryan Owings on drums
and
percussion. Individually, they have performed with musical icons including
Jackson Browne, The Moody Brothers, the Amazing Rhythm Aces, Wanda
Jackson, Linda
Ronstadt, Al Green, B.B. King, The Band and Janis Joplin. Those varied
influences and experiences combine to give the band an explosive
Country-Rock edge that
is winning them eager fans across Europe and the U.S.
Guest musicians on DISCIPLES OF THE TRUTH include band patriarch and
co-founder, the late “Sneaky” Pete Kleinow (Flying Burrito Brothers,
John Lennon,
Jackson Browne The Ventures, Joan Baez, The Bee Gees, Joe Cocker, The
Rolling
Stones), whose legendary pedal steel guitar magic graces several of the
tracks.
The session last year turned out to be the final studio appearance for
“Sneaky”
Pete, who sadly passed away on January 6th from complications related to
Alzheimer’s disease. Other notable guests are Cindy Cashdollar, Mike
Daly and Al
Perkins on steel and Dobro, Daniel Dugmore on steel and banjo, Barry
“Byrd”
Burton and Richard Ferreira on guitars, and percussionists Craig Krampf
and
Rick Lonow, while background vocals are provided by the likes of Joy Lynn
White,
Blue Miller and Rick Schell.
BURRITO DELUXE contains several first-rate songwriters, and they all
contribute songs to the album. The opening cut, “Out Of The
Wilderness” (Bell, Colin
Linden, Jim Weider), rides swirling accordion and Dobro atop an emphatic
two-step Cajun beat in the verses. “Front Row Seats To Heaven” (Moody,
Rob Crosby,
Craig Karp) celebrates a Smoky Mountain lovers’ getaway. “On A Roll”
(Egan,
Rick Schell), featuring lead vocals by Egan, is a smash with a Tom Petty
feel.
“Encino” (Moody, Crosby, Karp) calls to mind a Marty Robbins outlaw
ballad
set to a loping country beat. “Wrong Side Of Town” (Moody, Davis,
Bell, Egan)
is a melancholy masterpiece.
The band also shows excellent taste in recording a number of songs by
outside
writers. “Disciples Of The Truth” (Tommy Conners, Clay Blaker), the
first
single released to U.S. radio, is a flat-out rocker that gleefully recalls
a
musician’s “misspent youth.” Music Row’s Robert K. Oermann says,
“It rumbles
along with diesel-powered Country-Rock energy. It sounds like an instant
classic, and ya gotta love that.” “Sun Will Rise” (Edwin McCain),
already a European
hit, combines a driving Eagles-like chorus with a funky backbeat verse
reminiscent of The Band. The gorgeous ballad, “Wichita” (Houston
Roberts, Dave
Turnbull, Roxie Dean, Rivers Rutherford) is a rambler’s rumination on a
lost love.
“Midnight At A Red Light” (George Hamilton V) is a humorous,
rollicking and
irresistible tale of a naïve young man and the femme fatale who turns his
life
upside-down.
DISCIPLES OF THE TRUTH is 12 songs strong – and 12 strong songs of
All-American music at that. No gimmicks, no filler, just a hearty feast of
Country and
Roots Rock. If you’re not a believer, this CD will make you one.
